Abstract
This a case report of the multiple spontaneous intestinal perforation in newborn.
This patient was a 23 days old baby who was brought Woo Sok Hospital with complaints of frequent vomiting, abdominal distension and irritability. She was the second baby and born prematurely at the gestation of 8 months.
Mother denied respiratory difficulties and hydramnios in delivery and any ingestion of drugs, such as barbiturate, contraceptive and antihypertensive drug
Under presumtive diganosis of intestinal -perforation, exploration was carried out.
As expected frohi pic.ures o~ clinical findings and X-Ray findings, multiple small holes in transverse colon were noted.
Simple double layer closure and proxmal colostomy was performed.
On the 7th postoperative day there was large amount fecalith discharge from wound and enterocutaneous fistula was entertained. At the same time wound was eviscerated. On exploration of this time there were 2 large perforated areas in distal ileum. Perforation were closed. In spite of repair and massive antibiotics, treatment, the patient expired.
In view of this experience, we have concluded that mortality in intestinal perforation in newborn largely depend on baby age(prematurity or not).
